Roy Clark Wins at Scunthorpe

Date: 14 September 2009

Roy, Macker, & Dangerous Celebrate

Roy Clark held his head together while all around him appeared to lose theirs and stormed to his first BF600C final win at Scunthorpe. An incident packed weekend saw reigning champion Terry Cox lose any hope of retaining his title as a first bend incident in heat one ended his days racing. It didn’t get much more straightforward from that point on, with a majority of the drivers struggling to deal with the slick top bend, resulting in no fewer than 7 re-runs throughout the day. The final saw an almost full strength lineup, with S5D qualifying top with two very convincing heat wins. The third run of the final (after WR32, LM20, LM40, and SC500 had either been excluded for stopping race or due to damage) saw an early battle develop between Roy Clark in his Y89 Rawlinson Yamaha car and Dangerous Dave Wilding in the TAG Yamaha, Roy managed to forge a lead with Y600 Chris MacKenzie pushing him all the way to the flag in the other Rawlinson car. Tom Aldridge, who lead early on managed a 4th after spinning on the top bend. The winners of the weekend have to be Roy Clark and Tom Aldridge, Gav (WR80) who won the B final, and a fantastic showing from the Rawlinson cars. So, it’s onwards and upwards to the final at Nottingham, where we hope for great weather, great racing, fewer incidents and less re-runs.

Both Zoe Leyland (LM47) and Suzanne Gibbons (LM20) won their respective Champion of Champions at Leewood today, and will therefore run the LM1 and LM2 numbers on their cars for 2010. A massive congratulations from the F600 committee on your achievement, especially Zoe who managed to take ½ a lap out of FMOG Class 5 winner Terry Rigney, pass him, and hold him and the ARD class 8 of Alex Hall off for 3 laps. Fantastic.

The season finale at Nottingham saw WR32 Bryn Hawkins wrap up the 2009 British F600 Championship, with a solid 2nd place in the final, a fantastic results for ex British Kart Champion Bryn and his family in only his second full season in National Autograss. I’m sure the White Rose Club will be proud of his achievements and the fact the BF600C trophy has stayed that side of the Pennines.

Dobber Double

Keith Dingley took home all the silverware at the Fastest Man on Grass by winning the best prepared special and round 6 of the British F600 Championship. Earlier runs of the final ended prematurely when Jamie Ellison, Zoe Leyland, and Chris MacKenzie clashed off the line, resulting in a black flag for unlucky double heat winner Leyland. The second run saw Jamie Ellison lead away for 3 laps until, as a result of the first run incident, his rear suspension failed and relegated him to the infield. A further incident between 2008 Champion Terry Cox and last years St winner Dave Wilding, saw Terry pick up a black flag. The third run however lasted its course, with stand-in driver Keith Dingley (LM40) holding off championship leader Bryn Hawkins and Andy Blomfield for a tidy win. The B final went to Tom Aldridge (S5D) who recovered well from a nasty roll on the Sunday to pick up some valuable championship points. Overall, a rather incident packed weekend for the F600 class, with more than it’s fair share of black flags, reruns, rolls, and incidents than usual. Never a dull moment!
